How Does a DC Screen Charging Module Work in DC Panel System?

The DC charging module is the core power conversion unit of a DC panel system (DC screen). It undertakes AC-DC power conversion, battery charging and stable DC power supply for secondary control loads. With modular high-frequency switching technology, it ensures safe, continuous and intelligent operation of the entire DC power system. This article explains its working mechanism in clear, concise points.

Core Function & Positioning

The DC panel system provides operating power for substation control, protection and switching equipment. The charging module acts as the energy conversion core with 3 key functions:

  • Charge and maintain the system storage battery pack
  • Supply continuous DC power for on-site control and signal loads

Basic Internal Structure

The modular design simplifies structure and improves maintainability, mainly including 4 parts:

  • Input filtering unit: Filter grid surge and harmonic interference to stabilize input AC power
  • Rectification & high-frequency conversion unit: Complete AC-DC conversion via high-frequency switching rectifier
  • voltage & current regulation unit: Realize constant voltage/constant current intelligent adjustment
  • Sampling & protection unit: Monitor operating parameters and trigger protection in case of faults

Standard Working Process

The module operates in a fixed closed-loop logic to ensure stable power output:

  1. AC power input: Three-phase or single-phase AC power enters the module after filtering
  2. High-frequency rectification: Convert AC to adjustable DC power (110V/220V for standard DC panels)
  3. Parameter regulation: Automatically adjust output voltage and current according to battery status and load demand
  4. Parallel output power supply: Output DC power in parallel to supply daily loads and charge batteries simultaneously
  5. Real-time monitoring & feedback: Feed back operating data to the DC panel monitoring unit for dynamic optimization

Three Core Charging Modes

The module automatically switches working modes based on battery voltage and environment to extend battery life:

4.1 Float Charging (Normal Standby Mode)

Works when the battery is fully charged and AC power is normal. Maintain low-voltage constant output to compensate battery self-discharge, keep the battery in full-charge standby state, and supply stable power for daily loads.

4.2 Equalizing Charging (Recovery Mode)

Triggered automatically after battery deep discharge, long-term standby or voltage imbalance. Slightly increase charging voltage and adopt constant-current charging to balance cell voltage, restore battery capacity and eliminate battery polarization.

4.3 Temperature Compensation Mode

Realize adaptive voltage adjustment: increase charging voltage in low temperature to ensure full charging; reduce charging voltage in high temperature to avoid overcharging and battery aging.

Intelligent Fault Protection Mechanism

To avoid system damage, the module integrates multiple automatic protection functions:

  • Over-current protection: Limit output current or cut off power when load is overloaded or short-circuited
  • Over-voltage/under-voltage protection: Stop output when DC voltage is abnormal to protect loads and batteries
  • Over-temperature protection: Automatically reduce power or shut down when internal temperature is too high
  • Automatic switching backup: Faulty modules exit automatically, and standby modules take over to ensure uninterrupted power supply

Overall System Cooperation Logic

  • Normal grid condition: Charging module works continuously, supplies load power, and keeps battery floating charged
  • AC power failure: Module stops working, battery discharges automatically to maintain system DC power supply
  • Grid recovery: Module restarts automatically, enters equalizing charging to restore battery power, and switches to float charging after full charge

Key Advantages of Modular Operation

  • High stability: High-frequency conversion technology ensures low ripple and stable DC output
  • Easy maintenance: Single module fault does not affect the whole system, supports hot swapping
  • Energy saving: Intelligent mode switching reduces invalid power consumption
  • High safety: Full-range protection avoids equipment and battery damage

The DC screen charging module realizes intelligent, automatic and safe operation of the DC panel system through efficient AC-DC conversion, switchable charging modes and comprehensive protection mechanisms. It is the key guarantee for the stable operation of power system secondary equipment.
